Get your hands dirty! We welcome all levels—from absolute beginners to experienced artists and craftspeople—to a learning environment where people work together to create something amazing. Some classes are offered as weekly sessions, others as weeklong intensive workshops, and some take place in a single exciting night. See available hands-on industrial arts classes in our Volume 4, 2016 catalog, our Volume 1, 2017 catalog, or the Adult Class Index page.

If you believe in the life-changing power of collaboration, creativity, and community, please support The Crucible with a 100% tax-deductible contribution before December 31st. Tuition only covers 65% of our annual operating budget, and we rely on donors like you to keep our programs thriving, to provide accessible programs, to employ working artists, to partner with local schools, and to train the next generation of makers. Your generosity keeps the arts in our community. Thank you!

Dozens of leading artists, craftspeople, and Crucible faculty members will be selling their best hand-made pieces in a holiday celebration of local creative culture. With works of glass, metal, wood, ceramics, and more, you will find the perfect gifts for all the people on your list. Seasonal treats, beverages, and entertainment make the GIFTY Winter Open House an event all ages will enjoy. On December 9, 7-9:30pm, we welcome Crucible members to a special preview night. GIFTY is open to the public on December 10-11, 11am-5pm.

The Crucible offers a fantastic array of classes geared to ages 8-17. Youth can enroll in any of 15 disciplines including ceramics, glass blowing, bike shop, jewelry, kinetics, and welding. While the classes are undeniably fun, students can apply what they’ve learned here–creative problem-solving, scientific principles, and teamwork–at school and beyond. Check out the Youth Class Index page to see classes currently available for registration. Need-based scholarships are available.

We have over 20 areas of study (departments) at The Crucible. Some are pretty exotic, like Glass Fusing, so we’ve made it easy to explore these specialized disciplines with our new department pages! Just hover over the “Adult” tab in the upper left corner of this page, and scroll through the departments in the dropdown menu. On each department page, classes are listed alphabetically. Once you’ve narrowed down an area of interest, find the current schedule in our Volume 4 catalog or visit the Adult Class Index page.

Our creative, hands-on Team Building Workshops are fun, effective offsite experiences designed for Bay Area organizations. Our industrial arts will get your teams off the computer and having fun with glass fusing, flameworking, welding, blacksmithing, plasma cutting, jewelry making, woodturning and much more. Workshops are customizable and can meet the needs of any group, from as few as six to over 100 people. To learn more, please email us at teambuilding@thecrucible.org or call (510) 444-0919 x125.
