More than forty local artists and artisans will offer an assortment of unique handmade gifts including sterling silver necklaces featuring serotonin molecules (a soothing touch for the holiday season), handmade glass ornaments, and elegantly painted wooden boxes. An art show will feature elegant creations by noted artists working in metal, glass, wood, and multimedia.

Santa will arrive at noon, riding on a 1920 J. I. Case Traction Engine restored by Kinetic Steam Works, a Bay Area collective dedicated to steam-powered kinetic art. Santa’s journey through Oakland will begin at about 11 AM at 28th Street and Mandela Parkway. The steam-powered Case Traction Engine, towing a custom supply trailer and carrying Santa, will make its stately way down Mandela Parkway. When Santa reaches The Crucible, he will be greeted by stilt walkers dressed as elves and reindeer, in the finest Crucible holiday tradition.

The Fire Follies, a family-friendly performance of fire dancing and comedy, will feature Mystress Fyre, Pyro-A-GoGo and Zigzag at and 2:30 PM each day.

There will be glass blowing demonstrations and children’s activities all day, and a bronze pour demonstration at 1:30 PM.

From noon to 4:00 PM, The Crucible’s Youth Program will be selling children’s bicycles that have been donated to the program and repaired by youth mechanics. Prices begin at $30, and all proceeds support The Crucible’s Youth Programs.

You'll be supporting local artists and a community arts education for youth and adults from The Crucible.

Take BART to the sale! The Crucible is very conveniently located one block down from the West Oakland BART station.
