Become a Part of the Festival!

Join our special Cupola Iron Casting workshop running
July 7-13th and wow the crowds with your iron pour!

Here's your chance to play an active role in this year's Fire Arts Festival! In this entry level workshop you will learn how to cast iron using the cupola furnace, often considered to be the most exciting of all foundry processes because of its continuous melt capacity and impressive "metal volcano" characteristics. After learning the steps necessary to create a mold and prepare iron and coke charges for the cupola, you are invited to participate in a public iron pour on the last day of the 2008 Fire Arts Festival.

Click Here for more information and to register for this workshop.

  About The Fire Arts Festival

Each July The Crucible’s Fire Arts Festival celebrates creativity through fire and light with a spectacular open-air exhibition of interactive fire art, performance and the largest collection of outdoor fire sculpture on the West Coast.

The 2007 Fire Arts Festival attracted over 10,000 people from as far as England and Australia and featured The Fire Odyssey, an innovative production that blended industrial fire theatre with ballet, opera, hip hop, aerial dance and fire performance.

With an eye-popping array of cutting edge interactive fire sculpture and art from the all over the country and incredible fire, music and dance performances, it's the must-see event of the summer.

You’ll be dwarfed by gigantic sculptures by Dan Das Mann and Karen Cusolito, watch Nate Smith control his blazing Fire Vortex, or get hands-on with interactive installations like the Flamethrower Shooting Gallery. On the main stage each evening performers will awe and amaze the most discerning pyrophile – from the theatrics of the Copper Lantern Fire Theater to the urban dance beats of fLo-Ology.  Enjoy a beverage and food as you stroll through nearly four acres of amazing fire art, listen to some great music, and explore the world of fire and light!

The Fire Arts Festival is our major fundraising event, and proceeds benefit The Crucible’s arts education programs for youth and adults.

The Crucible’s Patron Pavilion

You can further support The Crucible’s mission to make arts accessible to everyone (and avoid standing in those nasty long lines) with the purchase of a Patron Pavilion Pass.  By adding $50 to the general admission ticket price for any day, you’ll enjoy an exclusive entrance and access to The Crucible’s Patron Pavilion with it’s own courtyard, live video of main stage activities, a private bar and tasty tidbits, preferred seating, AND entry to the phenomenal Steampunk Tree House. Appearing for the first time in the Bay Area, the Tree House was the hit of the Coachella and Stagecoach Music Festivals.  With your Patron Pass, you’ll get a full tour with a bird’s-eye view of the Fire Arts Arena, and be in the good company of sponsors and donors whose generosity help keep the creative fires burning at The Crucible.
