We’re excited to once again host the East Bay’s favorite local-artisan holiday shopping event, this time with a special Friday night preview, and an earlier Saturday start time of 11:00 a.m.. We’re beginning to accept applications now, and if you participated last year and want the same spot, we encourage you to apply now.
Last year’s GIFTY was a great success with some vendors reporting their highest earnings to date at a Crucible event. This year we’ll turn it up a notch with more paid promotion and public outreach to our community who are committed to spending their holiday gifting dollars locally and creatively.
Deadline for applications is 11/15/2014. Once you are notified of acceptance you will have seven days to confirm your placement during GIFTY. After seven days you may lose your placement to other vendors.
*Special preview night is free for Crucible members. We will provide 6 free passes for vendors to hand out to their best customers ahead of time. Vendors will be provided six free passes to preview night. The preview night is all about getting your work seen and will feature no demonstrations and only light entertainment. Friday set-up for preview night begins at 11:00 am. Saturday setup (if you miss preview night, but we strongly encourage you not to) begins at 8:30 am.
Details and Policies
Sell your handmade fine arts and crafts to eager shoppers in our massive indoor warehouse in West Oakland. We are hosting this event to raise awareness of our classes in the fine and industrial arts. Event includes kids activities, student and faculty art sale, a bicycle sale, and industrial art demonstrations, such as glass flame-working and welding, fire performances and more. Food and refreshments will be available from local food trucks. If you would like to check out the space before applying please feel free to attend one of our studio tours held Tuesdays at 6pm and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month at 3 pm (except during holidays and events). Booth and table spaces are assigned in order of completed application forms and submitted fees. Proceeds benefit participating artists and The Crucible’s arts education programs. Please read through this page of event rules and information. By supporting The Crucible, you are helping to keep accessible art education and community programs alive in the Bay Area. The Crucible staff and community thank you for your support!
All vendors for this event will be juried in order to gauge suitability for this event. While we invite and accept many kinds of creative expression, we are especially interested in vendors who create in media that are offered in Crucible classes or are related in some way. Jury will consist of Crucible staff.
Arts & Crafts – Commercial Vendors
We promote the sales of original, handmade, non-mass produced work by the artist in any media. Services offered may not be competitive to The Crucible. Unacceptable are kits, imports, commercial reproductions (except your own cards), all food and drink or re-recorded music. Artists must be present to sell their own work. Your allotted space may not be used by anyone other than yourself unless they have prior written permission from The Crucible. Vendors are solely responsible for complying with any regulations governing sale of their work. The Crucible must hire all external entertainers.
How to Apply
Note: Early applicants will have more promotional opportunities including being a “Featured Artist” on our website and printed materials.
- Fill out the above Vendor Application Form completely, make your selection of booth or table, include your payment details, and click “Submit Application” at the bottom of this page. You will have an opportunity to review your selections, and edit them as necessary, before final submission.
- If you have not included a link to online photos of your work in the application form, please email us two photos of your work (300 dpi and at least 3″) that accurately represent the work you will also sell. Photos will be used to determine if work juried is the same as that which is in your booth. Photos should be in focus with a solid background. Some photos may be used in the media for publicity or used on The Crucible web site or printed materials.
- Based on your photos and application your work will be juried based on quality of art work, relevance to The Crucible, and the requirement that it be hand-crafted.
