We’re smack in the middle of our fall quarter, which means that we have an amazing array of events and updates this month. From our Fireside Lounge with it’s world-class panel discussions, to an update on the Peralta Junction Pop-Up project, to our upcoming Youth Spring & Summer Camps. Fireside Lounge: “Shape / Shift”
October 12, 2012 • 6:30-9:30PM

The Crucible’s Fireside Lounge is an intimate evening of art, industry, community and entertainment. This exclusive engagement takes place in The Crucible’s studio and highlights our extraordinary art programs.


  • Live industrial art demonstrations in featured areas: Glass, Wood, Stone and Ceramics
  • Spectacular art show showcasing work from featured areas

Opening Weekend October 6-7, 2012

Beginning October 4, 2012, the 24,000 square-foot vacant lot full of weeds at the corner of Mandela Parkway and West Grand will be transformed into a creative community space filled with art and commerce. Learn all about this pop-up Creative Commons in West Oakland featuring art, food trucks, performances, people & pumpkins. Opening celebrations run through this weekend!

The Crucible Public Art Project Call to Artists
Application Deadline: Friday, October 26, 2012

In partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and through the support of the West Oakland Renovation Project, The Crucible is seeking artists to construct a commissioned piece of artwork, which will be displayed at The Crucible’s newly remodeled front yard.

Not only do we offer regular courses geared towards our younger fabricators, we also offer very specific programs including scholarships, internships and a large selection of youth-specific spring and summer camps.
