Volunteering Opportunities
Block Time Volunteers
Got some time in your schedule? Block
Time volunteers are the backbone of the volunteer
program; they commit to a regular shift (about
3-5 hours a week) for a several week block. Sample
projects include tool room staffing, studio volunteering,
general office projects, development & fundraising,
program support and technology projects.
As a block-time volunteer, you'll be working
with a Crucible staff person who will work with
you and supervise your time. Not only will you
see the nuts and bolts about how this innovative
organization runs, you'll be directly contributing
to the success of The Crucible, and the hours
you work will be logged toward program discounts!
Special Event Volunteers
Events at The Crucible are dynamic,
spectacular and not-to-be-missed. Our events
could not be possible with out the help of hundreds
of volunteers! Volunteer roles include greeting,
youth activities, sales, set-up and clean-up.
Volunteers who participate in our Fire
Arts Festival, Anniversary Event,
or other “pay to enter” events do
not accrue hours. Hours volunteered during these
events cannot be redeemed for volunteer benefits
such as class discounts or membership unless otherwise
noted.

Youth Program Volunteers
Field trips, special youth workshops
and open houses at The Crucible all need folks
with a special interest in working with young
people. Experience with children is helpful but
not necessary.
The Crucible’s Youth Program mission is
to provide youth with
high-quality, hands-on fine and industrial art
making experiences that support learning across
academic subject areas and learning styles. Our
program is dedicated to promoting healthy social
relationships, self-awareness, and skill building
as well as nurturing young people that will grow
to be healthy adults both physically and emotionally.
Volunteers are needed to participate in our youth
daytime fieldtrips, bike fix-a-thons, after school
and weekend classes, and special events. Responsibilities
include helping students with their projects,
assisting the instructor with set up and clean
up, helping children with activities, greeting
them at check-in, and escorting them in groups
to watch studio demonstrations. Experience working
in a studio environment is a plus!

General / On Call Volunteers
We often have special projects and ad hoc opportunities
for volunteers. As a member of the General/On-Call
volunteer community, you'll receive regular emails
about upcoming projects, events and ways you can
use your skills and time to help out at The Crucible.
Projects range from building walls and repairing
tools to general office projects and catalog distribution
runs. You'll contribute to the success of The
Crucible and be an active member of a community
of artists and tradespeople. And when you come
in and help us out, you log hours toward program
discounts!
Volunteer Policies and Benefits
Baseline
10 volunteer hours are required before accrual
toward benefits begins. After the initial 10 hours
are accrued, hours accumulate toward the below
benefits.
Option 1
20 hours: eligible to receive a "Firecracker"
membership (value $60), with membership-level
benefits.
Option 2
20 hours: eligible to receive a "Pyro"
membership (value $120), with membership-level
benefits.
Option 3
Classes & Labs: 1% discount for each hour
of volunteering.
Example: 25 hours of volunteering = 25% class
or lab discount. Maximum 50% discount toward classes,
discount applies towards tuition, not material
fee, and discount hours may only be used toward
approved classes. See the program manager for
approved classes. Maximum 75% discount toward
labs. Once volunteer hours are used towards a
benefit, the accrued hours are cleared and new
hours are logged towards a new benefit.
Set-up & Clean-up Incentive
Around events we can use all the help
we can get. To add an incentive to helping with
set-up and clean-up of events, we offer our 10%
Incentive Coupon. In exchange for volunteering
for a 5-hour shift on a specific set-up or clean-up
date, you will receive a 10% Off coupon towards
tuition! Please contact a volunteer coordinator
at volunteer@thecrucible.org
to be scheduled for a set-up or clean-up shift.
Additional Policies
Volunteers are eligible
to register 30 days prior to the start of a desired
class. Volunteers must register in person or
over the phone to receive their discount from
volunteer hours. To reserve a place in a class,
volunteers must pay the materials fee for the
class. Registering online will not yield a volunteer
discount. Once volunteer hours are used towards
a benefit, the accrued hours are cleared and
new hours are logged toward a new benefit. The
10% Incentive Coupon can be combined with volunteer
hours for volunteers who have already met their
10 hour initial accrual, or serve as a new volunteer’s 10 hour initial
accrual. This coupon can only be redeemed in person.
Other promotional discounts cannot be combined with
accrued volunteer hours. Accrued hours may be combined
with membership discounts.
