Fun Kids Activities in the Bay Area
Our school and community field trip program is a dynamic part of our organization. Through this program, we provide youth with an introduction to the industrial arts with demonstrations by artists and industry experts. These field trips support learning in areas such as mathematics, science, art, and world culture. Participants learn about the processes, tools, materials and applications of industrial arts and are inspired to make connections between arts and science. The Crucible staff works closely with educators to ensure that these kids activities are a meaningful and exciting educational experience.

The field trip program is available the third Thursday of each month for one-hour tours during the hours of 9AM and 2PM. There is no cost to Oakland public schools. For private schools in Oakland or schools outside of Oakland, we charge $4.00 per student. We require groups of at least 60 youth for a field trip, and students are divided into three groups to ensure participants experience the demonstrations in small groups. The Crucible provides intern docents to lead the group to each demonstration area, answer questions during the tour, or handle any emergencies that might arise during the tour. Groups are asked to provide adult supervision for their youth groups in a ratio of 10 youth per 1 adult. Additional adults will be admitted at a rate of $7.50 each.

We provide safe and imaginative fine and industrial art experiences. Every tour begins with a thorough safety discussion, and we highlight each area of learning that will be demonstrated during the field trips. Three demonstration stations are covered in the tour: oxyacetylene torch cutting, glass flame working, and jewelry. Each demonstration station is approximately ten minutes long and focuses on meaningful and exciting educational experiences. We believe in utilizing field trips as a continuum of youth program offerings. The Crucible Youth Program exposes youth of diverse backgrounds to the fine and industrial arts. Through intensive and engaging kids activities such as classes, fieldtrips, and workshops, youth are able to explore multidisciplinary subject areas. The Crucible Youth Program is committed to community service within our schools and neighborhoods. We are dedicated to promoting healthy youth development, strengthening youth competencies in leadership, community service and skill building.
