Saturday, August 25, 2018 | 12 – 5pm
Join us at the end of the summer for a day of fine and industrial arts inspired by aquatic life and the most abundant natural resource! Nineteen of our departments will be celebrating water with art, fire, and fun, while raising awareness and funds for The Ocean Cleanup. The Ocean Cleanup is a nonprofit organization that is designing and developing the first feasible method to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. Their assembly yard for the first cleanup system is in Alameda and will be focused on cleaning up half of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in five years.
Enjoy a carefully curated Crucible Art Gallery and a Youth Art Gallery, delicious beer from Old Kan Beer & Co, and cuisine from a local food truck and our neighbors Ground Level Snack Shop. And make sure to come ready for hands-on activities in Ceramics, Stone Working, Jewelry, then sign up for your next Crucible class, taking advantage of $25 off each one!
This event is free and open to the general public. All are welcome! However, parents of small children will need to pay special attention, as our studio space does have some rough edges.

RAKU FIRED CERAMICS
Glaze your own ceramic pot and watch it be Raku fired before your eyes. American Raku, or Western Raku, is a technique where glazed clay objects are placed in the kiln until they reach a temperature of 1400°F, then transferred to a small container of combustible materials and covered to reduce the amount of oxygen. Firing metal-rich glazes in high reduction environments creates vibrant, sparkling colors. There will be many different ceramic pots available in all shapes and sizes, with two live raku firings at 1pm and 3pm. Pieces fired at 1pm will be ready for pick up anytime after 2:30pm, and those fired at 3pm will be ready anytime after 4:30pm.
