The Society For Inclusive Blacksmiths Makes Crucible Scholarship Possible
Cathy Niland | 2.23.2022
The Crucible is thrilled to announce the Society of Inclusive Blacksmiths scholarship for access to our Blacksmithing Department and smithy. The scholarship will cover the full cost of a 15-hour blacksmithing class and will offer a stipend of $1,000 to cover materials fees, travel costs, and time away from work.
To be eligible, applicants must support the mission of The Society of Inclusive Blacksmiths; to build a community that truly supports, encourages, and educates people regardless of constructs of race, gender, gender orientation, sexuality, or physical limitations and be seeking to improve their blacksmithing/metals skills through classes and practice.
One scholarship will be awarded for 2022. Applicant eligibility will be limited to those who have an existing arts practice of some kind and will be able to attend a full series of blacksmithing classes and labs at The Crucible during the time they are offered.
“We are excited to support The Crucible! Its facility is in such an accessible place and it is already so committed to being an inclusive and welcoming space,” explained Elizabeth Belz, a representative for the Society of Inclusive Blacksmiths. “We want to support its mission and build equity and diversity within blacksmithing together.”
