We are open sourcing our knowledge of fire arts with a six-part series of fire performance, safety, and effects that will run throughout 2019 and beyond. In the Fire Series, you will learn to work with fire safely, to design and incorporate fire effects in your own art, and to perform with fire!

Our History The Crucible first opened its doors on January 15, 1999, in a rented 6,000-square-foot West Berkeley warehouse. In 2003, we moved to our current 56,000-square-foot West Oakland facility. Since our founding by sculptor Michael Sturtz, we have further grown our community-driven industrial arts programming, serving West Oakland and the Greater Bay Area.
