2020 fire & light soirée

The Crucible’s 2022 Fire & Light Soirée and Art Auction

Join us for our signature fundraiser, the Fire & Light Soirée and Art Auction, on Saturday, May 21 for the first time in two years. For one night only, the newly renovated gardens at the Oakland Museum of California will transform into a sparkling outdoor space to support The Crucible.

We have a special lineup of honorees, amazing auction items, including beautiful sculptures and functional art contributed by Crucible artists, and live demos from our Glass Blowing and Welding Departments made possible through the use of our Educational Response Vehicle (ERV), a fire truck converted into a mobile classroom!

Your support will help us raise over $250,000 and ensure that, in the coming year, all young people have access to The Crucible’s Industrial Arts Education Programs, regardless of family income.

Above all, this event celebrates the transformational power of making and creative risk-taking. It is an occasion to recognize and pay tribute to the people who inspire us and help to safeguard the future of arts education in our community. And we will party in blazing style with friends, family, and colleagues! Join us!

Sean Orlando, Arts Honoree

Sean Orlando has been involved with The Crucible since 2004, is the founder of Engineered Artworks, and is a former Crucible board member. We are thrilled to celebrate Sean as an innovative artist and fabricator who, while pursuing his own impressive creative practice, has helped create career pathways and opportunities for so many in the Crucible community.

Clayton Evans, Community Honoree

As an OUSD high school teacher, Clayton Evans has been crucial in securing free access to hands-on STEAM learning experiences and consistent high-quality arts education for his students. When the pandemic hit and schools went remote, Clayton secured funding to provide his students with in-person learning opportunities at The Crucible. Inspired by the success of Clayton’s program, two other schools are now following in his footsteps, helping ensure that West and East Oakland youth have regular access to transformative and empowering hands-on learning opportunities.

C’Zarriah Davis-Smith, Youth Honoree

C’Zarriah Davis-Smith is an emerging artist and current Instructor in our Glass Flameworking Department. C’Zarriah began her Crucible path as a teen participant in youth programs. She went on to become a Fuego Youth Leader, Teaching Assistant, and now Instructor. Her story not only reflects her beautiful spirit and artistic dedication, but the kind of leadership experiences and career pathways our entire team of Faculty, Staff, and Board Members work to support.

Sponsor A Table, Make A Difference

Sponsoring a Soirée table is an exciting way to give to our nonprofit. Make an impact, introduce The Crucible to your friends, and join us for a fun evening of fire and light.
