We are extremely excited to showcase the wild and imaginative designs of local artists Angelique Benicio and Tansy Brooks at Hot Couture 2014. The multimedia costume designs with a “Wild Tales” theme have been created by Angelique Benicio with glass and metal accents by Tansy Brooks. Don’t miss out on your chance to see these colorful and animated character costumes on our runway.
Angelique Benicio bring five years of experience in French cinema as a costume special effects artist, set sculptor and painter. For another five years she has participated in the annual Tahoe based, non-profit art and music event, Trails And Vistas as a performance artist using cosumes and installation. In addition she brings 12 years of illustration and design, past work as a painter and sculptor on notable commissioned projects, and an artist’s assistant to several world renowned artists.
Tansy Brooks grew up in Massachusetts, getting an Associate in Arts degree at Simon’s Rock before moving to California and finishing a Bachelor of Fine Art at San Francisco Art Institute. Her first love is sculpture, and some of her favorite jobs have included making architectural ornaments at San Francisco Victoriana, and making sets, puppets, molds and more on the Gumby television series. She works in a variety of media, from fabric to metal to silicone, and also enjoys dancing with snakes, fire, and other dancers (although not all at once). She became enthralled with glass when watching Jay Bridgland demo while volunteering at The Crucible. She signed up for the class, continued to be enthralled, and is now teaching there.
