Virtual Artist Talk: Whimsical and Functional Glass With Sam Schumacher

Please join us Friday, April 24 for our fourth iteration of our virtual artist talk series. We’ll be sitting down with Sam Schumacher of Rocket Glass, an accomplished sculptural and functional glass artist whose work has been featured in Architectural Digest and appeared throughout the Bay Area, including at The Crucible’s Fire & Light Soiree and at restaurants like Palette SF. During this virtual talk, you can get a behind-the-scenes look into his private studio, where he will blow glass and answer questions about his sculptural and functional glassware.

This event is part of a series of virtual artist talks The Crucible will be hosting during our Covid-19 related closure. Please check back for information on future talks!

Meet The Artist:

Sam Schumacher

Sam Schumacher is fascinated by historical and traditional techniques in glass making, integrating them into his work with a modern aesthetic. His pieces emphasize the natural tendencies and capacities of glass. The medium’s fragility and simultaneous lack of decomposition, are the main sources of Sam’s inspiration.

Sam is the founder of Rocket Glass Works, a handblown glassware company focused on creating unique, modern designs derived from organic, naturally inspired forms. Sam has been on faculty with The Crucible in the Glass Blowing Department since 2015.
