Normally during this time, our faculty, studio crew, and staff would be madly preparing for Hot Couture, a fiery fusion of fashion design and industrial art. For nine years, local Bay Area fashion designers and industrial artists mixed haute couture concepts with fine arts and industrial arts, creating a can’t-miss fashion and art experience.
In place of Hot Couture this year, we are focusing on preparing for our upcoming Spring Open House on March 31, our annual Fire & Light Soiree and Art Auction on April 7, and continuing to increase our investment in our educational mission to make the industrial arts more accessible to West Oakland youth and the Greater Bay Area. On top of that, we have already begun planning for our 20th Anniversary celebration in January 2019.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a glimpse into the incredible Hot Couture designs of years past. See below for awe-inspiring designs and some of our favorite moments from Hot Couture’s history.
