The Crucible Welcomes Seth Steward As New Executive Director
11.06.2023
The Crucible is pleased to announce Seth Steward has been named our new Executive Director ahead of our upcoming 25th anniversary year.
“I am profoundly inspired by The Crucible’s commitment to the creative arts and supporting the community it serves,” shared Steward. “As a West Oakland resident, I appreciate The Crucible’s values, given my belief that creative outlets ensure thriving futures. I look forward to building on The Crucible’s programming by continuing to empower the voices of faculty, staff, and students to bring industrial arts education to the broader community.”
Steward previously served as Chief of Staff for Oakland City Councilmember Dan Kalb and taught criminal law at City College of San Francisco. He was an Assistant District Attorney in San Francisco and served in the United States Air Force as a Flight Engineer where he was deployed to Iraq and Kenya.
Steward’s academic achievements include a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University’s prestigious John F. Kennedy School of Government, a Juris Doctor from the esteemed George Washington University Law School, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy from Occidental College.
Crucible Board President. Melanie Moore had this to say about Steward’s appointment. “The Crucible Board of Directors has tremendous confidence in Seth Steward’s leadership, and we could not be more pleased to welcome an Executive Director for this West Oakland institution, who is himself a West Oakland resident. Heading into our 25th year, we are led by an immensely capable and experienced individual, whose career has been shaped by the pursuit of excellence and equity.”
Community members and leaders will have the opportunity to meet Seth during events scheduled throughout the next month. We look forward to sharing more of Seth’s vision for The Crucible’s 25th year and beyond.
