Our studios are still buzzing from Saturday’s Spring Open House! We had record attendance for a Spring Open House, with over 1,100 attendees, and our expert faculty gave demonstrations all day. It was the first time that we had Steam Bending Wood demonstrations in our Woodshop, and our Glass Blowing faculty awed the crowds, glass blowing elaborate centerpieces for our upcoming Fire & Light Soirée and Art Auction.

“It was one of the best Open Houses of such a facility my husband and I have ever attended,” says Loretta Lopez, a first-time visitor to The Crucible.

Over forty Crucible faculty, staff, and students displayed their art work in our Open House Art Gallery, and attendees cast their votes for their favorite art pieces, selecting Jenny Wong-Stanley’s Inverse Worlds, as the winner of The Crucible’s Community Choice Award. Inverse Worlds shows off Jenny’s incredible skill creating works of art by steam bending wood into unique forms, a technique students can also begin to master in her Steam Bending Wood courses.

In Foundry, Department Head Nick Diphillipo was busy serving up fresh waffles, cooked on customized waffle irons cast in our Foundry. Kids explored their creativity throughout the studio, playing with clay in Ceramics, chiseling alabaster in Stone Carving, and stamping pendants in Jewelry.

Thank you to all of our amazing attendees, faculty, staff, volunteers for making our Spring Open House so unforgettable. We hope to see you in the studio soon! Below are some of our favorite photos from the event. Don’t forget to tag us in photos you share online, and use the hashtag #CrucibleOpenHouse.
