A Reimagined Fuego Youth Leadership Program For Summer 2020

2020-06-24T16:59:04-07:00

Like most things, we weren’t sure our Fuego Youth Leadership Program would run this summer. But with modifications to shelter-in-place orders, the introduction of new health and safety guidelines in our studio, and funding from our program sponsors, we’re excited to announce we’re moving forward with a streamlined version.

Field Trip Days Give Students A Window Into Industrial Arts

2020-02-25T16:03:11-08:00

This past Thursday, 327 students from eight local scools descended on our studio for the first of four Field Trip Days we’re hosting this Spring. Every year we open our 56,000 square-foot studio to Bay Area students so they can see what industrial arts education looks like up close.

This Thanksgiving, We’re Grateful For Volunteer Marc MacDonald

2019-12-02T16:29:05-08:00

There are few Marc MacDonalds in the world. He was equal parts compassionate and ambitious, and endlessly giving. After a 30 year career in the Coast Guard, followed by a 13-year career in the private sector, we struck gold when Marc began donating his time to our studio in early 2014 and quickly became an integral part of our Bike Shop’s team. A self-proclaimed fixer, Marc loved tackling the most difficult bike donations, even taking frames home to do extra work after hours.

Jada’s First Summer At The Crucible

2019-10-02T16:35:58-07:00

What did you do this summer? For most people, we’d guess plans didn’t include taking seven industrial arts classes. But for 13-year-old Jada, that’s exactly what her summer looked like. Even though she’d never been to The Crucible before, Jada dove in headfirst at the suggestion of her mom who wanted her to do something fun during summer break.

How A Crucible Education Made Pablo A Teacher

2019-11-26T12:28:32-08:00

Pablo Cambron-Valdez has been interested in art and sculpture since childhood. He would often make figurines out of clay his mom brought home from work or attempt origami from scraps of paper. But when he took his first Glass Blowing class the summer before high school–a gift he received for getting good grades–he knew it was something special.

Her Mission To Bring More People Of Color To The Crucible

2019-09-12T09:23:23-07:00

Samantha Espinoza first visited The Crucible in 2017 when she brought her high school students for a field trip. As someone who’s made art most of her life, she knows first hand the importance of arts education and the impact educators, specifically, those of color, can have on a student’s creative confidence. It wasn’t long before she connected with staff and soon thereafter became faculty in the Leather, Textiles, and Fine Art Department for youth summer camps.
